Cut should not be confused with the shape of a stone. Diamonds come in a variety of shapes including brilliant cuts, princess cuts, oval cuts, emerald cuts, marquise cuts and pear shapes, however this is the shape of the stone not the quality of manufacture.
A Diamond cutter's skill lies in releasing the maximum amount of sparkle from a piece of rough diamond.
Whilst all of the 4C's are extremely important it is perhaps the 'cut' that influences the fire and sparkle of a stone most dramatically. A well-proportioned stone will reflect light from facet to facet and return that light back through the top or 'table' of the stone.
If the cut of a stone is too deep or too shallow light will be lost through the side of the stone.
MDT Design use 'Excellent' and 'Very Good' cut diamonds.

We will be happy to further explain to you the importance of cut, colour, clarity, carat weight and shape, the characteristics that determine the value and beauty of a diamond.
